During 12 days, hundreds of filmmakers present their work to a large audience of over 310 000 participants and 2 200 professionals. The festival showcases some 250 feature films and 200 short films out of 50 countries.

The festival has several competitive sections and offer numerous cash awards. The main Competition offers an award of €40 000 to be shared between the film’s director and producer, and another award of €10,000 is presented to an exceptional artistic achievement.  The Bright Future Award consists of €10,000, to be spent on the development of a next film project. The VPRO Big Screen Award comprises a theatrical release in The Netherlands and is worth €30,000.
