(Fiction and documentary films of any length)

The Sydney film festival is currently accepting applications for its 2017 edition (non-competitive category).

Please note that all films must be submitted directly to the Festival.

  • Submission format: An uploaded film file or DVD
  • Competitive: Yes
  • Entry fees: Yes

Eligibility

Submissions must be lodged through FilmFestivalLife.

  • Official Competition: Films may only submit to the 2017 Official Competition by invitation from the Sydney Film Festival.
  • Non-competitive Official Section:
  • Film must be a regional premiere (Premiere in the state of NSW);
  • Films must have been completed since January 2016;
  • Screening formats: DCP or 35mm;
  • All works selected will be presented in English or in their original language with English subtitles. Subtitling is the sole responsibility of the film’s producer.

In 2016, the Sydney Film Festival, Australia’s oldest film festival attracted an audience of over 180,000, and to which 250 films were screened. Since 1974, it has been extending its reach to audiences in regional centres with the Travelling Film Festival.

The Festival’s non-competitive Official Section is reserved for fiction films and documentaries of any length, which are innovative in style or content, or are works by directors from emerging film industries, or are works by established directors.
