Canadian talent heading to Locarno

28 July 2014

Montreal, July 28, 2014 – Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce the Canadian presence at the 67th edition of the Locarno International Film Festival held in Switzerland from August 6 to August 16, 2014. Established in 1946, the festival occupies a unique position in the landscape of the major film festivals by focusing on auteur cinema and becoming a meeting place where emerging talent rubs shoulders with prestigious guests and seasoned filmmakers. Each year, some 300 films attract 160000 spectators and over 4000 professionals to the event.

This year, The Creation of Meaning (Italy-Canada) by Simone Rapisarda Casanova will be presented as part of the Cineasti del presente (Filmmakers of Today) Competition which honours first or second films.

Two Canadian short films, Hole by Martin Edralin and Sleeping Giant by Andrew Cividino, will compete in the Pardi di domani category reserved for emerging directors and film students.

Fuori Concorso, a non-competitive section that showcases non-conventional recent works, will screen Cutaway by Kazik Radwanski.

Last but not least, actor and director Don McKellar (The Grand Seduction and Last Night) and critic Andréa Picard (Toronto International Film Festival) will also represent Canada as members of the jury for the Cineasti del presente and Opera Prima categories respectively.
