The Committee will select the film to represent Canada for consideration as a possible nominee in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 89th Academy Awards
Montreal, June 22, 2016—Telefilm Canada invites producers to submit their feature films to the pan-Canadian selection committee for a chance to represent Canada for consideration as a possible nominee in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 2016 Oscars. The committee will make a decision in September and announce the results by October 1, 2016.
The films submitted must have been produced outside the United States in a language other than English and released commercially in theatres for at least seven consecutive days in Canada between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2016 in 35 mm, 70 mm or Digital Cinema Package (DCP) format.
Telefilm coordinates and chairs the pan-Canadian selection committee but does not have a vote. The committee comprises some 20 voting members representing major government agencies and national film industry associations.
