The Canadian audiovisual industry: Where talent means business
Carolle Brabant takes us behind the scenes for a closer look at financing and promotion in the world of film. Which of these best practices could benefit your industry?
The audiovisual industry plays a key role in both our economy and our society. It’s a creative and dynamic field with which we come in contact every day of our lives, on screens at theatres, on television and increasingly on our computers and smartphones.
In 2011-2012, the Canadian audiovisual industry generated 132,500 full-time jobs and contributed $7.6 billion to our GDP. It also set the stage for many success stories featuring young emerging talent and veteran filmmakers alike. Some of these highlights were from right here in Quebec, including the third consecutive nomination of a French-language Canadian film (Rebelle/War Witch by Kim Nguyen) for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.
Bringing together women working in senior positions in the field of finance in Quebec, the Association of Quebec Women in Finance (AFFQ) is first and foremost a platform to promote the professional advancement of women. The AFFQ has over 350 active members.
