Telefilm Canada’s Micro-Budget Production Program receives 24 applications from across the country

14 February 2013

Technicolor Canada becomes an exclusive partner of the program for postproduction services

Montreal, February 14, 2013 – Telefilm Canada is pleased to announce it has received 24 applications from emerging talent across the country for first feature film projects, as part of its new Micro-Budget Production Program. In addition, Telefilm has enlisted the support of two partners: Technicolor Canada, which is joining the Program as an exclusive partner in postproduction services, and Montreal director Vincent Morisset, who will sit on the selection jury.

Launched in June 2012, this program targets emerging talent in the industry and will support them in the production and release of their first feature film, with an emphasis on the use of digital platforms.

Projects are identified thanks to a network of 25 partners across Canada, consisting of recognized teaching and training institutions. These partners had until January 31, 2013 to recommend their candidate.

Telefilm will fund 8 to 10 micro-budget projects for the first year of the Program, whose total budget is $1 million. In the coming weeks, a selection jury will evaluate the projects shortlisted by the program partners and determine the finalists. This jury consists of Regional Feature Film Executives at Telefilm – under the direction of Stephanie Azam, Telefilm’s National Feature Film Executive – English Market, and Marie-France Godbout, National Feature Film Executive – French Market – as well as Montreal film director Vincent Morisset, who has agreed to sit on the selection jury as an external expert.

Telefilm is also pleased to announce that Technicolor will participate in this first edition of the Program as an exclusive partner in postproduction services. The company will offer a sponsorship valued at $15,000 to finalists who choose Technicolor to provide postproduction services for their feature film.

“This new program aiming to allow new talent to produce their first feature film, with an emphasis on digital platforms, has created a great deal of enthusiasm,” said Michel Pradier, Director, Project Financing at Telefilm. “We are pleased to be able to count on the support of a network of experienced partners as well as on the participation of Vincent Morisset and Technicolor in this first year of the Program. We are all very eager to learn who the finalists are and to see the first slate of productions.”

“Technicolor is very happy to become Telefilm Canada’s postproduction partner in the new Micro-Budget Production Program aimed at emerging talent in the Canadian audiovisual industry,” said Claude Gagnon, President, Technicolor Creative Services. “It is important for Technicolor to help promising new filmmakers create a first film in optimal professional postproduction conditions. We also believe that collaboration between our artists and craftspeople with new emerging talent is essential to promoting our cinema.”

Telefilm will announce the finalists at the end of February.
