National Canadian Film Day pays tribute to the film Café de Flore by Jean-Marc Vallée
Montreal, Monday April 27, 2015 – Reel Canada and Telefilm Canada are proud to announce the second edition of National Canadian Film Day, to take place on April 29th in several cities across Canada. On this date, Jean-Marc Vallée’s film Café de Flore will be shown at 7:30 pm at Cineplex Banque Scotia Montréal. Producers Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin, as well as actors Evelyne Brochu and Kevin Parent, will attend the event.
“This celebration is an opportunity to showcase the Canadian film industry by holding events across the country. For Canadians, it is a chance to discover high-quality films and the work of very talented artists and technicians that don’t always get the attention they deserve” said Jack Blum, executive director of Reel Canada.
To mark this day devoted to Canadian cinema, the film Café de Flore was chosen following a Web contest for Montrealers. Visitors had to vote for their favourite feature film from among these three works: Goon by Michael Dowse, Le Monde de Barney by Richard J. Lewis and Café de Flore by Jean-Marc Vallée. Contest winners received a pair of free tickets for the special screening on April 29.
About Café de Flore
The film, starring Evelyne Brochu, Kevin Parent, Hélène Florent and Vanessa Paradis, is a love story about people separated by time and place but connected in profound and mysterious ways. Atmospheric, fantastical, tragic and hopeful, Café de Flore chronicles the parallel fates of Jacqueline, a young mother with a disabled son in 1960s Paris, and Antoine, a recently divorced, successful DJ in present-day Montreal. What binds the two stories together is love – euphoric, obsessive, tragic, youthful, timeless love.
