Official statement from Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, on the Canadian Academy Award winners and Xavier Dolan’s win at the Césars

23 February 2015

Montreal, February 23, 2015—“On behalf of everyone at Telefilm Canada, I would like to congratulate Canadians Craig Mann and Chris Williams for taking home Oscars last evening, as well as Xavier Dolan for winning Best Foreign Film at France’s César Awards on Friday night—the first-ever win in this category by a Canadian director.

“Mr. Mann won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for Whiplash and Mr. Williams, who co-directed Big Hero 6, accepted the award for Best Animated Feature. It was Mr. Dolan’s (Mommy) fourth nomination for Best Foreign Film at the Césars.

“The entire country is extremely proud. When Canadian talent shines on the international stage, their success spotlights our entire industry back at home.

“Congratulations also to Robert Bridson and Ben Cole, who received Technical Achievement Award certificates, as well as André de Winter who received an Academy Plaque for the Scientific and Engineering Award at the Scientific and Technical Awards Presentation on Saturday.

“What an amazing week for our filmmakers; Canadian talent certainly knows no borders.”
