Telefilm Canada supports Standstill through Low Budget Independent Feature Film Assistance Program for the English market – Quebec region

09 August 2010

Montréal, August 9, 2010 – Telefilm Canada announces that the project Standstill, a feature film written and directed by Majdi El-Omari, has been selected for funding through the Low Budget Independent Feature Film Assistance Program. Each year Telefilm supports one independent English-language project from the Quebec region. Since there are no application deadlines for the Ontario and Nunavut, Western and Atlantic regions, the funding of other projects may be announced throughout the year.

“Telefilm Canada is proud to promote cultural diversity through its annual support for independent feature film projects,” said Michel Pradier, Director of Project Financing.

John is a Kanien’kehà:ka (Mohawk) photographer whose life is at a standstill. When he happens upon the body of a murdered neighbour, his stagnant existence is jolted. Instead of calling the police, he finds himself clearing up the crime scene and helping the murderer, Widad, to escape. As John embarks on a quest to rebuild his relationship with his son and resolve his feelings about his father’s suicide, he tries to figure out why he is allowing his interest in life to be revived by Widad. Their chance encounter may set both John and Widad on a new course.

Also, Telefilm recently announced the six projects selected for the French market.
