Statement by Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, regarding National Canadian Film Day 150, taking place today
This evening, Movie Nights Across Canada is spotlighting Lovesick, by Winnipeg’s Tyson Caron
Montreal, April 19, 2017 — “It gives me great pleasure and pride to know that Canadian cinema is being heartily celebrated here at home and all around the world today, on National Canadian Film Day 150. Telefilm Canada, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is proud to contribute to this fourth annual edition of National Canadian Film Day.
“This event is organized by Reel Canada, an organization that encourages an ongoing conversation among Canadians of all origins through images and stories brought to screen in every region of the country. We have supported Reel Canada and National Canadian Film Day from the outset.
“National Canadian Film Day 150 is the largest one-day film festival ever held, with 150 Canadian films, old and new, showing at 1,700 events taking place across the Americas as well as in Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania.
“The promotion and accessibility of Canadian stories on all existing and future platforms are at the heart of Telefilm’s commitment, and I invite all Canadians to treat themselves and celebrate their cinema today.
“As part of National Canadian Film Day 150, with the collaboration of Manitoba Film and Music and On Screen Manitoba, as well as some 30 other enthusiastic private and public partners, Movie Night Across Canada is holding a special event spotlighting a Manitoba film, Lovesick. This debut fiction feature by Tyson Caron is a romantic comedy starring Jacob Tierney, Jessica Paré, Jay Baruchel and Ali Tataryn. Manitoba is an increasingly important production centre and it richly deserves this honour.”
