USA 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"editor-content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>CALL FOR ENTRIES<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(Narrative and Documentary\u202fFeatures\u202fcurrently in post-production)\u202f&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FIRST LOOK<\/strong>\u202fis an\u202finternational<strong>\u202f<\/strong>export and sales initiative that provides a preview of\u202f6\u202ffeatures\u202fto the acquisition community in New York.\u202fVirtual mentorships sessions will be in&nbsp;<strong>May<\/strong>, the presentation will be held online<strong>&nbsp;mid-June<\/strong>, and the in-person market will be in&nbsp;<strong>September<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FIRST LOOK<\/strong>\u202faims to introduce films currently in post-production and\u202ftheir creators\u202ffrom Canada to sales agents, distributors,\u202fagents\u202fand festival programmers in the United States.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The selected participants will be mentored by\u202f<strong>The Gotham\u2019s&nbsp;<\/strong>industry specialist&nbsp;to prepare their pitch and film clips\u202fin order to\u202fpitch to\u202fU.S.\u202findustry experts.\u202f(Delivery deadline&nbsp;for&nbsp;the&nbsp;film&nbsp;excerpts&nbsp;is&nbsp;<strong>end of May)<\/strong>\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This program also will include participation in The Gotham Project Market &#8211; Producers Hub in&nbsp;<strong>late-September<\/strong>, which will&nbsp;provide access&nbsp;to public programming sessions, networking events and 1:1\u202fmeetings&nbsp;with the professionals&nbsp;interested in the&nbsp;projects.&nbsp;If in person participation is not possible, virtual meetings will be offered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-h-3-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>ELIGILIBITY REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">To be considered eligible, an applicant must meet\u202f<strong>all\u202f<\/strong>the following criteria:\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">be a Canadian controlled corporation, as\u202fdetermined\u202funder sections 26 to 28 of the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/acts\/I-21.8\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Investment Canada Act<\/em><\/a>;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">have its head office in Canada and carry out its activities in\u202fCanada;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">operate as an audiovisual production\u202fcompany;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">producers and other key production personnel exercising creative and financial control over the project must be Canadian\u202f<a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/blaism\/AppData\/Local\/Microsoft\/Windows\/INetCache\/Content.Outlook\/EXITHKVJ\/2021%20FIRST%20LOOK%20call-for-entries%20ENG%20-%20FINAL.docx#_ftn1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[1]<\/a>;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\"><strong>be searching for an international sales agent and\/or an international distributor for the\u202fsubmitted\u202fproject in the US\u202fmarket;<\/strong>\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">if selected, be available to&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in virtual mentorship meetings (early May 2026) and a virtual pitch (mid June&nbsp;2026).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">if selected, be able to produce and deliver a pitch reel that includes&nbsp;film&nbsp;excerpts of the project&nbsp;by&nbsp;end&nbsp;of May deadline&nbsp;(exact date\u202fto be confirmed); \u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">if selected, be available to\u202fattend the\u202fGotham Project Market &#8211; Producers Hub\u202fin New York in (September&nbsp;2026).\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u202f\u202f<a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/blaism\/AppData\/Local\/Microsoft\/Windows\/INetCache\/Content.Outlook\/EXITHKVJ\/2021%20FIRST%20LOOK%20call-for-entries%20ENG%20-%20FINAL.docx#_ftnref1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u202f\u201c<strong>Canadian<\/strong>\u201d&nbsp;means for individuals, a Canadian citizen within the definition of the\u202f<em>Citizenship Act<\/em>\u202for a permanent resident within the definition of the\u202f<em>Immigration and Refugee Protection\u202fAct<\/em>;\u202fand for corporations, under Canadian control\u202fpursuant to\u202fthe\u202f<em>Investment Canada Act<\/em>.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-h-3-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><a href=\"https:\/\/seriesmania.com\/forum\/en\/co-pro-pitching-sessions-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>\u202f<strong>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR PROJECTS<\/strong>\u202f&nbsp;<\/summary>\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">To be considered eligible, a project must meet\u202f<strong>all<\/strong>\u202fthe following criteria:\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">be a feature length (75 minutes or more) film,\u202ffiction\u202for documentary, in the post-production phase;\u202fto be released in\u202flate\u202f2026\u202for in 2027.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">be produced or completed in French, English,\u202fan Indigenous language, or\u202ffor\u202fartistic imperatives, in another language, must be subtitled if in a language other than\u202fEnglish;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">be under the ownership of the Canadian<sup>1<\/sup>\u202fapplicant (including its copyright);\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">be written by a Canadian<sup>\u202f<\/sup><a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/blaism\/AppData\/Local\/Microsoft\/Windows\/INetCache\/Content.Outlook\/EXITHKVJ\/2021%20FIRST%20LOOK%20call-for-entries%20ENG%20-%20FINAL.docx#_ftn1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[1]<\/a>\u202fscreenwriter;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">be directed by a Canadian<sup>\u202f<\/sup><a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/blaism\/AppData\/Local\/Microsoft\/Windows\/INetCache\/Content.Outlook\/EXITHKVJ\/2021%20FIRST%20LOOK%20call-for-entries%20ENG%20-%20FINAL.docx#_ftn1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">[1]<\/a>\u202fdirector;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">with respect to Canadian content certification, upon completion be either:\u202f&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">certified by the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) as a \u201cCanadian film or video production\u201d with a minimum&nbsp;of&nbsp;\u202f8&nbsp;out of 10 points\u202funder the provisions of\u202fthe\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/acts\/i-3.3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Income Tax Act<\/em><\/a>; or\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">recognized as a treaty coproduction by the Minister of Canadian Heritage; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">be aimed primarily at the Canadian theatrical market, with a strong potential for international sales in the US market; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">conform to the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) Code of Ethics and to all other programming standards endorsed by the CAB or the\u202fCRTC, and\u202fnot\u202fcontain\u202fany element that is libellous or in any other way unlawful.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u202f<a href=\"file:\/\/\/C:\/Users\/blaism\/AppData\/Local\/Microsoft\/Windows\/INetCache\/Content.Outlook\/EXITHKVJ\/2021%20FIRST%20LOOK%20call-for-entries%20ENG%20-%20FINAL.docx#_ftnref1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u202f\u201c<strong>Canadian<\/strong>\u201d means for individuals, a Canadian citizen within the definition of the\u202f<em>Citizenship Act<\/em>\u202for a permanent resident within the definition of the\u202f<em>Immigration and Refugee Protection\u202fAct<\/em>;\u202fand for corporations, under Canadian control\u202fpursuant to\u202fthe\u202f<em>Investment Canada Act<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-h-3-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><a href=\"https:\/\/seriesmania.com\/forum\/en\/co-pro-pitching-sessions-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><strong><strong>SELECTION CRITERIA<\/strong>\u202f&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/summary>\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Telefilm Canada will select\u202f6\u202fapplicants to\u202fparticipate\u202fin this initiative. Decision-making will be based on qualitative information\u202fin order to\u202fselect the projects with the best potential for success in the US market. The following criteria will serve as a guide, and no specific weighting will be attributed to each of the components:\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">International\u202ftrack record\u202fof the applicant production\u202fcompany;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">International\u202ftrack record\u202fof the creative\u202fteam;\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">Creative elements of the project, including originality and quality of the synopsis; and\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-regular-font-size\">The marketability of different elements of the film (e.g. renowned director, screenwriter, and\/or performer(s), potential for success in the US, etc.).\u202f&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-regular-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The selection process will be conducted by Telefilm Canada and based, among other things, on recommendations made by a US-based jury.
