MONTR\u00c9AL \u2013 Nina Roza<\/em> will represent Canada in the nomination process for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards\u00ae<\/strong>, to be held on March 14, 2027<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film is written and directed by Genevi\u00e8ve Dulude-De Celles<\/strong> and produced by Sarah Mannering and Fanny Drew (Canada), Lorenzo Fiuzzi and Bardo Tarantelli (Italy), Lubomira Piperova and Nikolay Mutafchiev (Bulgaria), as well as Beno\u00eet Hansez and Etienne Hansez (Belgium)<\/strong>. The film is produced by Colonelle Films<\/strong>, in co-production with UMI Films, Ginger Light, PREMIERstudio and Echo Bravo<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are proud to see this film represent Canada in the race for the Academy Awards\u00ae and wish Genevi\u00e8ve Dulude-De Celles, Fanny Drew, Sarah Mannering and the entire filmmaking team the greatest success.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nina Roza<\/em> had its world premiere in the official Competition category at the 76th Berlinale, where Genevi\u00e8ve Dulude-De Celles won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay. Prior to its premiere, the film received two awards at Locarno Pro in 2025: the Urban Post First Look Award and the Jannuzzi Smith Award. The film then had its North American premiere as the opening film of the 44th Rendez-vous Qu\u00e9bec Cin\u00e9ma on April 22, 2026. Since then, it has continued its international festival run, notably screening at the Sofia International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, as well as at festivals in Istanbul, Jeonju and Shanghai. Nina Roza<\/em> will also be presented at the Festival International du Film Francophone de Namur, and AFI Fest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the designated (non-voting) <\/strong>chair of the committee, Telefilm Canada coordinates the annual pan-Canadian selection committee responsible for choosing the Canadian film that will compete for the Academy Award\u00ae for Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards\u00ae. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selection was made by a pan-Canadian committee composed of filmmakers and industry professionals representing various organizations and professional guilds. A total of 17 films<\/strong> were submitted for consideration this year. Committee members met on the morning of August 25, 2026, to make their selection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, 14 countries have submitted films for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category. Last year, 92 countries submitted films in this category, 86 of which were ultimately declared eligible by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
