{"id":3579,"date":"2019-04-10T11:41:11","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T11:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/telefilm.ca\/ottawa-premiere-edge-of-the-knife-special-screening-at-the-canadian-museum-of-history"},"modified":"2026-06-15T14:59:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T18:59:12","slug":"ottawa-premiere-edge-of-the-knife-special-screening-at-the-canadian-museum-of-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/telefilm.ca\/en\/ottawa-premiere-edge-of-the-knife-special-screening-at-the-canadian-museum-of-history","title":{"rendered":"Ottawa premiere: Edge of the Knife special screening at the Canadian Museum of History"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"editor-content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Toronto\/Montr\u00e9al<\/strong><strong>, April 10, 2019<\/strong> \u2013 Yesterday evening, the <strong>Honourable Pablo Rodriguez<\/strong>, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, hosted the Ottawa premiere of <strong><em>SG\u0332aawaay \u1e34\u2019uuna<\/em><\/strong> (<strong><em>Edge of the Knife<\/em><\/strong>), co-directed by <strong>Gwaai Edenshaw<\/strong> and<strong> Helen Haig-Brown<\/strong>, and produced by<strong> Jonathan Frantz<\/strong> with the award winning <strong>Zacharias Kunuk <\/strong>as Executive Producer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ottawa Premiere of <strong><em>SG\u0332aawaay \u1e34\u2019uuna<\/em><\/strong>, the first feature film spoken only in the endangered Haida languages, was attended by Members of Parliament, Senators, Indigenous leaders and organizations, private sponsors and the general public at the <strong>Canadian Museum of History<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This ground-breaking film tells the classic Haida story of the traumatized and stranded man transformed to <em>Gaagiixiid<\/em>, the wildman. The screenplay was written in 2015 by Gwaai and <strong>Jaalen Edenshaw<\/strong>, <strong>Graham Richard<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Leonie_Sandercock\">Leonie Sandercock<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;with the aim to preserve and teach Haida. <strong>Delores Churchill<\/strong>, Haida Elder and actor in the film, who also translated the English script into the Haida languages, attended the screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Haida is a language in danger of extinction.
