Features-length fiction and documentary films

 76. Venezia

The Festival sections open to Canadian productions are: Venezia 76 (International Competition), Out of Competition, and Orizzonti, also a competitive section.
The 76th Venice International Film Festival is organised by La Biennale di Venezia. The international competition comprises a maximum of 20 feature-length films, presented as world premieres.

Out of competition
Some of the most important works of the year will be presented in the non-competing section, and they may include the works of established authors who have participated in Competition in previous editions of the Venice Film Festival.

Orizzonti
An international competitive section with 18 feature films that represent the latest aesthetic and expressive trends in international cinema, with special attention to debut films, young talents who are not yet firmly established, indie features, as well as works that address specific genres and current production, with the aim of innovating and demonstrating creative originality.
The Orizzonti section programs 15 competing short films of all genres with a maximum length 20 minutes.

SHORT FILMS
Only Orizzonti is part of the Official 76. Mostra and programs 15 short films. They must be submitted directly to the festival. There is a registration fee of €60.

Eligibility criteria
  • Feature-length films (60 minutes +)
  • Films should be World Premieres.
  • Films completed after September 8, 2018.

Note: The Orizzonti section programs 15 competing short films of all genres with a maximum length 20 minutes.

 

Entry fees

*We must inform you of a change that was communicated to us by the management of the Venice Film Festival (“La Mostra”) during a recent meeting.
At the Festival’s request, registration fees to submit a Canadian feature film to the VENICE FILM FESTIVAL ( Mostra – all three sections, Competition, Out of Competition and Orizzonti) will apply  from now  on for all films, starting in 2019.  This policy applies for all countries. You will also need to submit your registration and honor the fees on the festival website directly. Telefilm Canada will no longer receive submissions for La Mostra on Grenadine.*
