Cannes 2027 | NOT SHORT ON TALENT at the Short Film Corner

Cannes, France, May 16 to 19, 2027

Deadline

January 17, 2027

CALL FOR ENTRIES

(Canadian short films, all genres)

Telefilm Canada is currently accepting submissions for its 17th edition of CANADA: NOT SHORT ON TALENT program at Cannes, a curated market showcase presented at the Short Film Corner 2027.

Not Short on Talent is a Telefilm Canada initiative that presents a selection of new Canadian short films. The chosen films will be presented at the SFC | Rendez-vous Industry, a component of Cinéma de Demain – entity of the Festival de Cannes dedicated to the support of young talents – whose activities take place at the heart of the Marché du Film. Selected participants will have access to the Marché du Film –  Short Film Corner | Rendez – Vous Industry programming.

Our showcase aims to increase the visibility of new Canadian short films and to promote talent to registered industry delegates, including buyers and festival programmers.

The films selected for this initiative will benefit from a promotional campaign developed by Telefilm Canada. Under the “Canada: Not Short on Talent” label, films will be highlighted with a prime position in the Short Film Corner | Rendez-vous Industry market catalogue, as well as on the online & private VideoLibrary.

Teams of the selected films will have access to trainings developed by the Short Film Corner | Rendez-vous Industry and specifically dedicated to our cohort and will have the opportunity to promote your short films to industry representatives during the “Tease the Audience” presentation, an event included in the Short Film Corner’s official programming.

Thanks to the 2 accreditations offered to each team, participants will also have access to the market’s programming and activities such as panels, workshops, keynotes, masterclasses, screenings and more (onsite).

If funds are available, a travel grant will be offered to teams taking part in the Talent Tout Court 2027 programme to cover part of their travel costs.

CURATION PROCESS

Films must be received by January 17, 2027

“Canada: Not Short on Talent” is a 90-minute program featuring approximately 5 to 8 new Canadian short films.

The films will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic and creative quality
  • Track record of key creative personnel (production, directing)
  • Diversity of voices and inclusion

Priority will be given to film teams that have not previously been chosen as part of a Not Short on Talent cohort.

Decisions will be communicated via email end of February.

If selected, you will have to deliver a file of your film according to the specifications provided by Telefilm Canada and the Short Film Corner | Rendez-vous Industry. An image and an excerpt of your film will also be required for promotional use.

Telefilm Canada will cover the cost of the inclusion of your film in the market Video library reserved to professionals, as well as the targeted trainings. Chosen films will benefit from a promotional campaign developed and funded by Telefilm Canada to ensure exposure for the selected Canadian films.
