TELEFILM CANADA is currently accepting entries of feature films on behalf of the

Rotterdam International Film Festival (“IFFR”).

 Deadline to submit via Telefilm Canada: October 2, 2020

Entry fees: The Festival waives its entry fees for Canadian feature films submitted through Telefilm Canada.

N.B. Short films (1 to 60 minutes) should be submitted directly to the festival before September 21. The Ammodo Tiger Shorts Competition is reserved for shorts and three winners will each receive €5,000.

 

THE FESTIVAL

Founded in 1972, the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), one of Europe’s biggest and most important film events, focuses mostly on innovative and independent cinema.

During 12 days, hundreds of filmmakers present their work to a large audience of over 300 000 admissions and 2 300 professionals. The festival showcases some 200 feature films and 300 short films out of 50 countries.

The festival programs four sections including three competitive. The festival awards the winning films with cash amounts.

The FIPRESCI jury, consisting of international film journalists, present an award. Only debut films that have their world premiere out of the main competition are eligible for this award.

The festival is associated to CineMart, the first market platform of its kind to offer filmmakers the opportunity to launch their ideas to the international film industry and to find the right connections to get their projects financed. IFFR actively supports new and adventurous filmmaking talent through its co-production market CineMart, the Rotterdam Lab and other industry activities.

 

INTERNATIONAL SECTIONS:

  • TIGER COMPETITION: reserved to directors of a 1st, 2nd or 3rd feature length film with a world premiere status. The award of €40.000 is to be shared between the film’s director and producer. In addition, two special awards worth €10,000 each will be presented to for exceptional artistic achievement.
  • BIG SCREEN COMPETITION comprises sixteen films eligible for the Big Screen Award having their world, European or international premières. The winning film will benefit from a theatrical release in The Netherlands and will be broadcast on VPRO. The VPRO Big Screen Award is worth a total of €30,000. Half of this amount is for the filmmaker; the other half is to be spent on the Dutch theatrical release.
  • BankGiro Loterij Audience Award is for all feature length films, having received their first public screening after 1 January 2020, are eligible for the BankGiro Loterij Audience Award, chosen by the audience of the festival. The prize comprises €10,000.

 

 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
  • All works must have been completed after January 1, 2020.
  • Priority is given to world and international premieres.
  • Priority is given to directors of a 1st, 2nd or 3rd feature length film.
  • Feature films must be 60 minutes or more.

The following rules apply in case of digital festival screenings prior to IFFR:

  • If the film has been screened with geo-block, regular premiere status rules apply.
  • If the film has been screened without geo-block and was available (worldwide), a maximum of 1500 views is allowed in order for the film to be eligible for IFFR selection.

 

REGISTRATION
  • Complete the Telefilm application “Rotterdam Festival 2021”.
  • Accepted formats: Streaming link.
  • Once your application has been approved you will receive a waiver code.
  • Complete the IFFR application form using the waiver code for payment. Deadline: October 14, 2020.
