About

Founded in 2004 in Yerevan, the capital city of Republic of Armenia, the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival (“GAIFF”) welcomes films representing diverse ethnic groups, religions, and nations that depict the human experience, daily lives of people, as they try to find meaning in a changing world, struggling to redefine themselves in a world that recognizes fewer and fewer boundaries.

During the seven days of the festival, the viewers may watch over 130 films programmed in the various thematic and non-competitive sections, as well as in two international competitions reserved to feature-length narratives and documentaries. The Golden Apricot (Grand prize) and the Silver Apricot (Special mention) are awarded in each category.

“GAIFF” is a middle-size film festival with a profound programming and high-profile jury members. The festival director is one of Armenia’s most famous filmmakers. The honorary chairman is Canadian film director Atom Egoyan. In 2009, Golden Apricot Yerevan IFF received the Hollywood Foreign Press Award which was the worthy estimation of the festival by this prestigious organization of cinema journalists and film critics.
