ABOUT
Tribeca Film Festival has established itself as one of the important public audience festivals in New York focusing on innovative formats and storytelling across all medium and platforms.
The festival programs 100 features and 60 shorts of all genres, 30 immersive narrative works, episodic TV programs and pilots, as well as cross media projects. The festival attracts close to 800 industry delegates from 36 countries and about 1,300 journalists.
The Documentary Spotlight section screens almost exclusively U.S. productions, the Doc Competition showcases 12 titles, and the International Narrative Competition showcases a total of 8 features. Other sections include Viewpoint, Gala, etc.
Status requirements vary according to the section and awards at play. A feature must be at least a North American Premiere to be eligible for the Narrative Feature or Documentary Feature Awards, but the festival prioritizes a World premiere status in most sections. To run for the First Feature Award requires a World premiere status.
Tribeca NOW celebrates independent episodic work, including short and long form pilots/series, of both narrative and documentary genres.
Some awards qualify the winners to submit their short films for the Oscar® (Live Action Short/Animation, Documentary, Student Academy Awards).
Canadian films programmed at the festival in the last two years: Darkest Miriam, Made in Ethipia, Bam Bam: The Sister Nancy Story, ASOG, Hey Viktor! and Richelieu, all as World premieres, and the short films Dead Cat and À toi les oreilles.
Telefilm Canada recognizes a feature film selection in this festival and may provide assistance through the International Promotion Program
