ABOUT

Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) is a leading festival in Asia. The festival and its market component, the Asian Film Market, serve both as a rallying point for the international film industry and as a gathering place for its audience of over 200 000 attendants. Over 300 films from 75 countries are programmed each year. A total of 1,500 professionals from 45 countries participate and actively engage in production, investment, imports, and exports.

Each year, three to six Canadian features are selected by the festival. The festival’s delegate will be considering films for the two main international sections: WORLD CINEMA, for established filmmakers, and FLASH FORWARD, being reserved to first and second features eligible for the Audience award.

A few examples of Canadian features invited to previous editions: BROTHER, RICEBOY SLEEPS, CRIMES OF THE FUTURE, THE FAMILY, WILDHOOD, ANTIGONE, GUEST OF HONOUR, THE SONG OF NAMES, WHITE LIES, BLOOD QUANTUM, MATTHIAS ET MAXIME, LIFECHANGER, HOCHELAGA, GIANT LITTLE ONE, THE HUMMINGBIRD PROJECT. In 2019, FABULEUSES, a debut-feature selected in Flash Forward won the Audience award which has two components: funds to support the winning film’s Korean distribution, as well as a cash prize.
