The Aspen Shortsfest is an Oscar®-qualifying film festival recognized as one of the premier short film festivals in North America. It is organized by Aspen Film, one of Colorado’s film arts organizations, presenting programs and featured guest artists throughout the year. Each April, in addition to public screenings, the festival hosts panels, workshops, and other festivities that spotlight the art and craft of short moviemaking.

The festival presents several international competitive sections including Best Animation, Best Comedy, Best Drama, Best Documentary, and Best Student Short. In 2019, for the second year, Aspen Film presented the Vimeo Staff Pick Award, a prestigious honour from the creator-first platform.

Among last year’s list of 10 winners was Canadian short BROTHERHOOD, by Canadian filmmaker Meryam Joobeur, honoured with two awards, The Ellen Award, as well as the Jury Award for Drama.

Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection for a feature film at this festival as part of its Success Index and may provide financial support through the International Festival Participation Program.
