ABOUT

Aspen Shortsfest is an Oscar®-qualifying film festival recognized as one of the premier short film festivals in North America. Each April enthusiastic audiences, filmmakers and special guests from around the globe gather to participate in public screenings, panels, workshops, and other festivities that spotlight the art and craft of short moviemaking. 

The festival presents several international competitive sections including Best Animation, Best Comedy, Best Drama, Best Documentary, and Best Student Short. 

In 2019 list of 10 winners was Canadian short BROTHERHOOD, by Canadian filmmaker Meryam Joobeur, honoured with two awards, The Ellen Award, as well as the Jury Award for Drama. Last year, Special Mention for Drama went to I’LL END UP IN JAIL, directed by Alexandre Dostie, and a Special Mention to NO CRYING AT THE DINNER TABLE, directed by Carol Nguyen. In 2022, OUSMANE directed by Jorge Camarotti won the Best Drama Award. 

 Telefilm Canada recognizes a selection in the Festival for application to its International Promotion Program.
