Each year, some 450 films from about 90 countries are screened, and the festival registers 160 000 admissions. It is also the primary networking platform for the film industry in the Nordic countries, presenting new film and TV Drama from the region. All through the festival week 1800 accredited producers, commissioners, directors, screenwriters and other industry experts attend the festival.

The festival has two competitions:

  • The Ingmar Bergman is open for narrative or documentary features by first and second time directors.
  • The International is open for non-Nordic feature films and documentaries.

Telefilm Canada recognizes selection in the Göteborg International Film Festival as part of its Success Index and provides assistance through the International Festival Participation Program.
