ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

ABOUT

Launched in 1979 with the goal to show non-mainstream films to a broader audience, the Göteborg Festival has become the biggest public film festival in Scandinavia. Each year, some 450 films from about 90 countries are screened, and the festival registers 160 000 admissions. It is also the primary networking platform for the film industry of the Nordic countries. Throughout the festival week, 1 800 accredited producers, commissioners, directors, screenwriters, and other industry experts attend the festival.

The festival programs two international competitions:

  • The Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award is open for debut narrative or documentary features.
  • The International competition – Dragon Award for Best International Film. This section presents films that have already been loved and awarded at other festivals as well as new discoveries.

In 2023, the festival programmed five Canadian features: BROTHER, FALCON LAKE, GEOGRAPHIES OF SOLITUDES, SAULES AVEUGLES, FEMME ENDORMIE (animation), and THE MAIDEN.

Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection of a feature film and may provide assistance through the International Promotion Program
