ABOUT

Since its first edition in 1974, Film Fest Gent has grown into the largest film festival in Belgium with more than 100,000 visitors every year. For decades, Film Fest Gent has put the spotlight on film music, which makes it unique on the film festival calendar. Since 2001, Film Fest Gent has presented the World Soundtrack Awards, a series of prizes for the best soundtrack for films and television.

Film Fest Gent annually invites between 12 to 15 films for its thematic competition focusing the jury’s and audience’s attention to the creative contribution of the soundtrack/music to the overall effect of a film. An international jury then presents the winners of the Grand Prix for Best Film and the Georges Delerue Award for Best Music or Best Application of Music or Best Sound Design.

Film Fest Gent also organizes a competition for international shorts. The purpose of this competition is to underline the importance of the short film genre and to encourage (young) directors. The international jury of the Gent International Film Festival will award one film the Film Fest Gent Best International Short Film Award 2024 consisting of a cash grant of €5.000 for the director.

In 2023, Jill, uncredited (Anthony Ing), Nanitic (Carol Nguyen), Revival69: The Concert That Rocked The World (Ron Chapman) and Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (Ariane Louis-Seize) were presented at the festival.
