MIFA 2025 | Canada-Germany Animation Lab
CALL FOR ENTRIES
Online | May 5 to June 6, 2025
In-Person in Annecy, France | June 10 to June 13, 2025
(Canadian Producers in Animation, Feature Film or TV)
Telefilm Canada is now accepting applications from Canadian production companies specializing in animation (feature film or television) who would like to take part in the inaugural Canada-Germany Animation Lab. The entire program as described below is offered simultaneously to Canadian and German producers; the latter will be selected through a separate application process. This call is only open to Canadian producers.
This initiative will enable a maximum of five (5) producers, representing a Canadian production company, to benefit from a series of exclusive workshops (with a focus on Canada-Germany co-production – as well as pitch and meeting preparation). It will also provide them with an opportunity to participate in networking activities with German producers during the Annecy International Animation Film Market (MIFA) that will take place in France from June 10 to 13, 2025.
This initiative is co-organized by the Trade Commissioner Service and Telefilm Canada, in partnership with the Canada Media Fund and with the financial support of the Ministry of Canadian Culture and Identity.

Applicants will be assessed by an international jury of industry professionals based on qualitative criteria, with the goal of selecting those with the strongest potential to produce an international treaty co-production between Canada and Germany. The following criteria will guide the selection process, with no specific weighting assigned to each component:
- The applicant’s track record in producing animated content (feature films or television);
- The applicant’s experience in the international marketplace (e.g., co-productions, distribution, selections at international festivals, market attendance, participation in residencies or training programs, etc.);
- The applicant’s objectives and motivations for participating in the initiative and engaging in co-production with Germany.
Moreover, decision-making will take into consideration Telefilm Canada’s objective to foster a diversity of voices in the audiovisual industry. As such, Telefilm Canada may prioritize applications from certain regions of Canada.
The selected applicants will be notified in early May 2025.
