South by Southwest (SXSW) has three industry events (film, music, and tech) converging in Austin during 10 days, mirroring the ever-increasing convergence of entertainment/media outlets.

The SXSW Film Conference portion has been described as a five-day crash course on guerrilla filmmaking and marketing for every level of filmmakers from novice to veterans.

Narrative and documentary features are programmed in COMPETITION, or in non-competitive sections, such as SPOTLIGHT, VISIONS and MIDNIGHTERS. In addition to feature films, shorts, and VR/AR/MR projects, SXSW now programs Episodic Premieres of TV, Web or streaming serials slated for release as well as an Episodic Pilot Competition.

SXSW is a qualifying festival for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Short Film competition. The Best Animated Short, Best Narrative Short and Best Documentary Short winners become eligible for the Academy Awards.

For a 3rd consecutive year, there will be a Canada House, located in the heart of the festival, where a variety of different activities are programmed every day highlighting excellence in film, television, gaming, music, and tech.
