About

Giornate degli Autori is an independent sidebar held during the Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, modeled on the prestigious ‘Directors’ Fortnight’ of the Cannes Festival and promoted by the associations of Italian film directors and authors (ANAC and 100autori).

The 10 films selectedare world premieres and compete for the three awards of Giornate degli Autori, including a cash prize of €20,000, to be split equally between the filmmaker and the film’s international distributor, who agrees to use the sum received to promote the winning film internationally.

First films are eligible for the “Luigi De Laurentiis Award Lion of the Future”, granting 100.000 USD.

Many Canadian films had their World Premieres at Venice Days: EMMA PETERS and VILLE NEUVE (2018), EARLY WINTER (2015), GERONTOPHILIA (2013), SIDDHARTH (2013), STORIES WE TELL (2012), CAFÉ DE FLORE (2011), INCENDIES (2010), C.R.A.Z.Y (2005), RÊVES DE POUSSIÈRE and CONTINENTAL, UN FILM SANS FUSIL (2007).

Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection of a feature film in the Festival for applications to its International promotion Program.
