55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

Update

Please note that screenings of films in Montreal have been cancelled due to the pandemic situation and the closing of the borders.

Also, in conjunction with the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, we have agreed that Telefilm will continue to monitor film submissions and these will be viewed privately but remotely. Furthermore, the selectors of Canadian films will view them in April and they will issue a shortlist afterwards.


Call for Entries 

(feature-length fiction and documentary films)

 

Telefilm Canada is currently accepting entries on behalf of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

In addition, the sections open to Canadian films are:

  • OFFICIAL SELECTION – COMPETITION
  • HORIZONS (A selection of the most remarkable contemporary films)
  • IMAGINA (Films with an unconventional approach to narration and style, distinctive and radical visions of film language)

Feature films that will not be submitted via Telefilm Canada must be sent directly to the festival

About the festival

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is a FIAPF “A” category festival and leading competitive film festival in Central and Eastern Europe. The Festival is one of the key stops on the international festival calendar. The Festival, respected for its strong programming and efficient guest and industry services, attracts an increasing number of festival scouts and distributors.

Since its inception in 2003, the Festival’s Industry Office has been providing services and activities to about 850 registered producers, buyers, distributors, sales agents, representative of festivals and film institutions. In addition to its strategic relationship with Variety, the Festival’s press coverage is very prominent (approximately 700 national and international journalists).

Each year, an interesting set of European and Asian trade professionals, many of whom are looking for international co-producers, attend. Each year, the Festival sells around 120,000 tickets and attracts an audience of approx. 11,000, a mostly young audience that is famous for its enthusiastic support and bringing the power of their patronage back to local box offices.
