Rémi Bonhomme is the newly appointed Artistic Director of the Marrakech International Film Festival. From 2009 to 2020, he was the Program manager of Cannes’ Semaine de la Critique.

With the aim at revealing new filmmakers from all over the world to the Moroccan audience, the Competition programs around 12 international 1st and 2nd narrative features. The Jury awards several prizes including the Golden Star – Grand Prix, endowed with 50,000 US to be shared equally between the director and the main producer of the film. To be considered for the competition, a film needs to have at least an African premiere status. The festival programs several non-competitive sections, notably the 11th Continent and its challenging films, as well as a screenings for young audience.

Some 100,000 participants have attended the various screenings and activities of the last edition. MIFF’s industry and talent development session held during the festival gathers professionals from Morocco, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America, as well as international film festival directors and programmers.


Telefilm Canada recognizes a selection in this Festival for application to its International Promotion Program.
