The 29th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film is currently accepting applications for its next edition.

Please note that films must be submitted directly to the festival.

  •  Competitive: Yes
  • Entry fees: No *Participation in the ITFS competitions is free of charge, but the submission platform shortfilmdepot.com charges a small fee for its service, depending on the number of animated films submitted.
Eligibility
  • Films selected in Competition must not have been released commercially in Germany prior to the Festival.
  • Films must have been completed in after October 1, 2020.

Founded in 1982, the festival is one of the biggest and most important international festivals for animation. The festival attracts close to 90,000 cinephiles and 2,500 accredited professionals. The concurrent industry events comprise the 16th Animation Production Days, a 4-day coproduction and financing forum that brings together 170 participants from 20 countries with 50 projects in development, and the FMX – Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Immersive Media which attracts an additional 4,000 industry attendees.

Among the varied film programmes, the focus is on short films for adults and children. A total of up to 70,000 € in prize money is awarded in the various competition sections for features and shorts. The winning short film of the Grand Prix (15,000 €) automatically qualifies for the Oscar Animated short category. Two prizes are reserved to school films, including the Best Graduation Film (10,000 €).

Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection of a feature film in the Festival for application to its International Promotion Program.
