ABOUT

Slamdance is recognized as a festival for discovering visionary first-time directors:  Christopher Nolan (Following), Lynn Shelton (We Go Way Back), Bong Joon Ho (Barking Dogs Never Bite), Sean Baker (Take Out), Lena Dunham (Dealing), Ana Lily Amirpour (Six and A Half), and many more. The festival, established and programmed by filmmakers, is dedicated to emerging directors. Its annual lineup consists of 146 films. 

The competition is reserved to first-time feature directors with a feature-length film produced with a budget under $1 million USD.  

BREAKOUTS is showcasing directors beyond their first films who maintain distinct visual styles and a unique cinematic voice. The UNSTOPPABLE program (features and shorts) is made by and/or about creators with visible and nonvisible disabilities. 

All short film sections are qualifying categories for the annual Academy Awards®.  

Pilots and single episodes of any length, genre, and style are considered for the EPISODES section. DIG is a showcase of innovative digital, interactive, and gaming artworks.  

The Canadian films selected in 2025: Gamma Rays (LES RAYONS GAMMA), LARRY (documentary), RACEWALKERS and 8 short films. 


Telefilm Canada recognizes selection of a feature or a short film in the Festival for applications to its International Promotion Program.
