ABOUT

The International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam has developed into one of the most important documentary film festivals in the world. The festival welcomes some 295,000 visitors annually, including 3,000 industry professionals making it the world’s largest and most influential documentary film event.

IDFA selects approximately 250 titles every year in its six competitions, a wide range of non-competitive sections, and an expansive new media program.

Parallel to the festival is Docs for Sale, a marketplace where producers and sales agents offer creative documentaries to buyers, and  IDFA Forum, IDFA’s international co-financing and co-production forum, one of Europe’s largest gathering of filmmakers, commissioning TV editors and independent producers specialized in documentary.

In 2022, four Canadian feature documentaries were selected: Geographies of Solitudes (J. Mills), Beyond Extinction: Sinixt Resurgence (A. Kazimi), Midwives (Snow Hnin Ei Hlaing) and Silent House (K. Kamoosh).

Two shorts were also selected: Violet Gave Willingly (C. Sanford), Oasis (J. Martin) as well as two XR projects: Partita for 8 Voices (M. Lam) and Grandmas’ House (D. Gardener).

Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection of features, short films and XR projects in the festival as well as projects selected for the Forum for applications to its International Promotion Program.
