Founded in 1984, BUFF Film Festival has been the most important screening venue for films for children and young people in the Nordic countries. Each year, more than 100 films from 40 different countries screen to a young audience (ages 3-19).
The competitive sections present several awards where winners receive 100,000 Swedish kronors and a statuette for the Best film for children, the Best film for young people, and the best short film for children and young people.
In 2019, three Canadian features were invited at the festival: A Colony by Geneviève Dulude-Decelles, Charlotte a du fun by Sophie Lorain and Firecrackers by Jasmin Mozaffari.
In 2020, inspired by Greta Thunberg and other young activists, the festival will highlight questions about the future throughout its programming and other events.
Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection of a feature film in this festival as part of its Success Index and may provide assistance through the International Festival Participation Program.
