ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

ABOUT

Established in 1985, the Warsaw International Film Festival is well established and recognized on the festival circuit. It programs films with a world, international or European status in several INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION sections for feature-length narratives, documentaries, and shorts. The festival allocates numerous prizes (Audience, Ecumenical, FIPRESCI, etc.) as well as cash awards.

It also showcases the COMPETITION 1-2 reserved to debut and second features, and highlights independent, innovative, and “rebellious” fictions and docs in its FREE SPIRIT COMPETITION. Non-competitive section includes DISCOVERIES with narratives and documentaries dealing with contemporary subjects which have been presented at other festivals, and FAMILY CINEMA Weekend.

Last year, Babak Payami’s 752 is not a Number was featured in the Documentary Competition in European Premiere. Viking by Stéphane Lafleur and Lissa’s Trip by Jeffrey Lando were also presented in the Free Spirit Competition. The short film Canary (Pierre-Hugues Dallaire & Benoit Therriault) was selected in the Family Cinema Weekend section.

Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection of a feature film in this festival for application to its International Promotion Program.
