ABOUT
In 2025, Edinburgh International Film Festival returns to its place at the heart of the Edinburgh festivals summer season. The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has been in existence since 1947 and alongside London, is the most important film festival in the UK. Every year EIFF welcomes up to 400 media representatives and over 1300 filmmakers and industry professionals from around the world. UK Premiere status is required for all feature and short submissions. EIFF is particularly interested in World, International or European premieres, and first or second features.
There are two major awards at EIFF, decided by audience vote:
- The Sean Connery Prize for Feature Filmmaking Excellence with a cash prize of £50,000, is open to features of any genre that will have their World Premiere at EIFF in August 2025.
- The Thelma Schoonmaker Prize for Short Filmmaking Excellence with a cash prize of £15,000, is open to short films of any genre that will have their World Premiere at EIFF in August 2025.
Telefilm Canada recognizes the selection of a feature film in the Edinburgh International Film Festival and may provide assistance through the International Promotion Program.
