ABOUT

The Big Sky Documentary Film Festival draws an audience of 20,000 and presents an average of 150 non-fiction films. Selected for 7 years running by MovieMaker Magazine’s 50 Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, the festival is a competitive event with three award categories: Best Feature (films over 40 min), Best Short, Best Mini-Doc (films under 15 min). The festival is also an Academy Award qualifying festival for short documentaries. 

In addition to screenings, the Big Sky DocShop is a five-day industry event that includes panels, master classes, workshops, and the Big Sky Pitch session. DocShop’s participants have included key broadcasters and funding institutions, namely: HBO Documentary Films, Showtime Documentary Films, Tribeca Film Institute, Sundance Doc Fund, The New York Times Op-Docs, ESPN Films, BBC Storyville, CNN Films, ITVS, POV, PBS, AJ+, Al Jazeera Witness.  

Telefilm Canada recognizes selection to this Festival and may assist financially through the International Promotion Program.
