18th Marrakech International Film Festival

The 18th Marrakech Film Festival is currently accepting entries for its 2019 edition.
Please note that all films must be submitted directly to the festival.

Eligibility criteria
- Films presented in Competition are reserved to first and second narrative features;
- Narratives and documentaries are eligible for the non-competitive sections;
- Films must have been produced during the 18 months preceding the Festival;
- Features length must be 75 minutes or more;
- African premiere is required to be selected in the Competition.
Since 2018, former head of the Berlinale’s Forum section Christoph Terhechte is the newly appointed MIFF artistic director. With the aim at revealing new filmmakers from all over the world to the Moroccan audience, the Competition programs 14 international 1st and 2nd narrative features. The Jury awards several prizes including the Golden Star – Grand Prix, endowed with 50,000 USD. Last year’s Jury included director James Gray as president, actress Dakota Johnson and director Lynne Ramsay as members. The festival porgrams several non-competitive sections, including 11th Continent which celebrates innovative works and a showcase of narratives reserved to a young public.
Some 100,000 participants have attended the various screenings and activities in 2018. Last year’s edition was also marked by the organization of several sidebars and industry events, such as the “In Conversation with” sessions with renowned filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Guillermo Del Toro.
MIFF’s industry and talent development session held during the festival gathers together professionals from Morocco, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America, as well as international film festival directors and programmers (Cannes, Rotterdam, Busan, Locarno, Morelia, Karlovy Vary, Tokyo, etc.).
Telefilm Canada recognizes a selection in this Festival for application to its Participation to international festivals and events support program.
