Opening soon: Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program for 2026–27

Telefilm Canada announces the opening dates of the Theatrical Documentary Program for fiscal year 2026-27. 

Applicants are encouraged to carefully read the guidelines, the Essential Information Guide, and all required documents available on the Theatrical Documentary Program webpage. 

Key dates:   

• Opening date: March 19, 2026, at 8:00 a.m (EST)
• Closing date: April 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (EST)

Please note, there is only one intake period for this program.  

As previously announced in the Production Program opening notice and as part of Telefilm’s commitment to supporting projects from official language minority communities (OLMCs) across all its programs, a new declaration for OLMC projects is now available. This declaration defines what is considered a project produced by an OLMC company for each language market and will enable Telefilm to monitor its commitments to OLMCs. 

Theatrical Documentary Program 

The program supports Canadian production companies at the production and/or postproduction stage of their feature-length documentary projects aimed primarily at theatrical audiences.
