Gender Parity Action Plan

Commitment towards Gender Parity from 2020 onwards

We are committed to holding a continuous open dialogue with the industry and its diverse members.

We consult with, and inform, industry stakeholders and our clients regarding strategic opportunities, the common challenges we face, and any needed important changes we may undertake.

Whether with film producers, distributors, broadcasters, professional associations, federal and provincial agencies, special interest organizations, or our talented directors and screenwriters, we strive to stay connected to the industry on multiple levels.

Gender Parity Action Plan

Telefilm continues its commitment to create a more inclusive and representative entertainment landscape. As announced in 2016 and starting from 2020, Telefilm has, for projects of equal quality, prioritized projects whose key creatives (director and/or writer and/or producer) reflect the diversity of the country in terms of gender, Indigenous communities or cultural diversity to achieve a balanced production portfolio (at all budget levels) that reflects gender parity in each of the key roles. Please see our detailed reporting below.

Telefilm’s five-pronged action plan to achieve gender parity:

  1. Encouraging a diversity of projects
  2. Evaluating projects
  3. Transparency and reporting
  4. Continued targeted promotion of female talent to raise their professional profile and market appeal
  5. Continued support of the conversation on gender parity via research and professional development initiatives

Telefilm Canada has released the results of its gender parity initiatives for projects funded during the 2019/2020 fiscal year.
