Statement by Julie Roy, Executive Director and CEO of Telefilm Canada, in response to funding granted by the Government of Canada

04 November 2025

“Today, in its 2025 budget, the Government of Canada announced the renewal of additional funding for Telefilm Canada, amounting to $150 million over three years, starting in fiscal year 2026-27, to support Canada’s vibrant film industry.

“We are delighted with this news, as this investment is essential to the Canadian audiovisual industry and to fulfilling Telefilm’s mandate. We thank the Government of Canada and the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister responsible for Official Languages, for recognizing the importance of the Canadian audiovisual industry in affirming its economic impact and its role in our cultural sovereignty.

“We are also pleased to see that our partners, the Canada Media Fund and the National Film Board are also receiving government support in this budget. Overall, this is a major investment in Canadian creators and the cultural economy.

“This confirmation comes at a pivotal time for the industry as it strives to bolster its competitiveness and resilience amid the many challenges facing the sector. At the same time, we are continuing our mission to promote Canadian and Indigenous stories to domestic and international audiences, while conducting a strategic review of our programs and initiatives.

“Telefilm thanks the industry members who rallied and advocated for the renewal and continuation of the additional funding allocated to us.”
