Telefilm Canada is proud to announce the first rollout of its Western Strategy, with a spotlight on British Columbia, as part of its commitment to celebrating regional talent and amplifying diverse voices across the country.

Following the launch of its Atlantic Strategy in 2024, Telefilm has now begun consultations with partners in British Columbia to better respond to the province’s unique opportunities and challenges. The announcement was made in collaboration with Creative BC and CMPA BC during the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF).

The BC rollout of the Western Strategy is guided by three strategic priorities:

  • Connections: Building capacity and ensuring equitable access
  • Competitiveness: Mobilizing data while reflecting BC’s regional realities
  • Discoverability: Strengthening promotion and market reach for BC creators

Building on Telefilm’s 2024–27 Strategic Plan, as well as its action plans on equity, diversity and inclusion, accessibility, and sustainability, this initiative is designed to recognize, reflect, and respond to the specific strengths of British Columbia’s film industry. It will adapt to evolving market realities and opportunities, fostering transparency and more consistent, timely reporting. British Columbia is the first region in the Western Strategy, followed by the Prairies and Northern Territories (including Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut).

A more detailed overview of the planned actions will be presented at a later stage, following continued consultations with the local industry.
