Telefilm Canada reopens the Production Program for fiscal 2024-2025
Telefilm Canada is announcing reopening dates of the Production Program for fiscal 2024-2025 with updated Guidelines and Essential Information Guide now available on the Program webpage.
The Production Program supports Canadian audiovisual production companies that are looking to finance Canadian feature-length films at the production or post-production stage.
Changes to the program are made in alignment with Telefilm’s strategic objectives to evolve and optimize its funding approach as part of Telefilm’s ongoing modernization efforts.
Key Dates:
First opening period
From December 4 to 18, 2023:
- All production projects with budgets of $3.5 million or more, including international coproductions.
- All French-language production projects with budgets under $3.5 million, including international coproductions.
From January 29 to February 12, 2024:
- All English-language production projects with budgets under $3.5 million, including international coproductions.
- Indigenous stream in all languages and budget levels.

Important changes:
- Minority coproductions in which Telefilm’s financial participation does not exceed $500,000 will now have the choice between a non-repayable contribution or a repayable investment.
- Post-production applications will now have the choice between a non-repayable contribution or a repayable investment.
- Changes have been made to the terms and conditions of greenlight financing.
- Productions with budgets of $3.5 million or higher selected for production funding are required to use a carbon calculator to calculate their production’s greenhouse gas emissions; and deliver its carbon footprint report at Final Costs.
- The minimum contingency reserve requirement is increased from 6% to 8%.
