Canada at Cannes: Telefilm announces that Xavier Dolan’s “Les amours imaginaires” will be presented in Festival’s Official Selection
Montreal, April 15, 2010 – Telefilm Canada has announced that “Les amours imaginaires”, Xavier Dolan’s second film, will be presented in the Official Selection in the category “Un certain regard” at the 63rd edition of the Cannes Festival, held May 12 to May 23, 2010. Films accepted in Official Selection were unveiled by the prestigious Festival earlier today. “Les amours imaginaires” is the first Canadian title to be presented in the category “Un certain regard” since 2001, when Zacharias Kunuk’s film Atanarjuat (The Fast Runner) was invited at the Festival.
“The Cannes Film Festival is the most important event for the film industry worldwide as well as movie lovers of every stripe," said Sheila de La Varende, Director, National and International Business Development at Telefilm Canada. “The fact that a Canadian film is shown in the Official Selection generates benefits for the entire industry. We are very happy that Xavier Dolan has been selected to represent Canada in the “Un certain regard” category,” she said.
Another highlight for Canada at Cannes this year is director Atom Egoyan who will serve in the Festival de Cannes’ 2010 Cinefondation and Short Film Jury as President.
Finally, again this year, Telefilm has organized screenings in Montreal for programmers at Cannes to present Canadian films submitted for the 2010 edition of the Festival.
Film titles selected for the Directors’ Fortnight and International Critics’ Week will be announced next week.
