Telefilm Canada launches its 2026–31 EDIA Plan
Telefilm Canada is launching its 2026–31 Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) Plan, reinforcing its commitment to equity and accessibility through a five-year roadmap to sustainable change within the audiovisual sector. Focused on three core orientations, the Plan is supported by a strengthened governance structure: the creation of Telefilm’s Corporate Impact and EDIA Steering Committee, chaired by the CEO of Telefilm Canada, Julie Roy.
Developed through a collaborative process involving Telefilm staff, industry partners and an external consulting firm, the EDIA Plan echoes a deepened commitment to systemic change. The transition from EDI to EDIA marks an evolution: by fully integrating accessibility, the EDIA Plan sets a five-year horizon that anchors EDIA as core to Telefilm’s mission and allows for more sustainable and measurable actions to be implemented.
Telefilm’s 2026–31 EDIA Plan is anchored in three fundamental orientations:
- As a Funder: To create optimal conditions to support access to our programs.
- As a Public Employer and Institution: To embody equity and transparency.
- As a Sector Catalyst: To foster industry transformation and alignment.
These orientations, with targeted objectives, will enable Telefilm to embed EDIA in a sustainable and measurable way in our programs and operations. Led by the newly formed internal steering committee, a Summary Table of Measurable Actions will be published in the coming months.
Telefilm’s Corporate Impact and EDIA Steering Committee brings together decision-makers and expertise from across the organization to increase alignment and transparency in advancing our corporate priorities. It formalizes shared accountability, reinforces collaboration across teams, and provides clear oversight of our commitments.
“With the creation of the Corporate Impact and EDIA Steering Committee, we are taking a decisive step toward long-term transformation,” said Julie Roy, Executive Director & CEO of Telefilm. “And transformation starts from within. This new internal structure gives us unified leadership across all areas of Telefilm, strengthening coordination and ensuring collective stewardship. It’s how we will deliver long-term impact. Progress that directly shapes the stories audiences want to see on screen.”
The EDIA Plan reinforces our commitments reflected in our Accessibility Plan (December 2025) and Indigenous Reconciliation Plan (2023). Each of these plans maintains its specific mandate while contributing to shared priorities that collectively advance progress across the organization.
