Impressive Year for Canadian Cinema at the 15th Pusan International Film Festival

07 September 2010

Montreal, September 7, 2010 – Telefilm Canada announces that eight Canadian feature films have been chosen as official selections of the 15th Pusan International Film Festival, to be held in South Korea from October 7 to 15, 2010.

“Pusan is an excellent springboard for Canadian filmmakers looking to launch their films internationally,” said Sheila de La Varende, Telefilm Canada’s Director of National and International Business Development. “Canadian participation at Pusan strengthens our efforts aimed at increasing international sales, encouraging coproduction and raising the profile of the Canadian industry on the international stage—especially in Asian markets. These activities play a big role in helping to expand Canada’s film industry and make it even more vibrant.”

Over the last 15 years, Pusan has become one of Asia’s most important film festivals. In 2006, the festival was supplemented by a market, the Asian Film Market. Telefilm has been organizing screenings for the Pusan selection committee since 2005, thereby helping to favour the selection of Canadian films at this major international festival.
