INDUSTRY ADVISORY: Important developments in the 2009-2010 Skills and Screens Program – English Language Market

04 May 2009

May 4, 2009 – For the 2009-2010 fiscal year Telefilm Canada wishes to clarify how its Skills and Screens Program (SASP) will be administered in the English Language Market regarding:

  1. Introduction of an application closing date (November 2, 2009)
  2. Funding decision-making process and criteria
  3. Telefilm’s financial support for other, smaller initiatives
  4. Regional office priorities

In May 2008, Telefilm Canada’s Business Development division launched the new SASP aimed at supporting Canadian festivals and initiatives that, in turn, contribute to achieving Telefilm’s corporate objectives of building audiences, building capacity, and being a good administrator.

NOTE:  Initiatives deemed uncompetitive by Telefilm during fiscal 2009-2010 will not be funded. However, for initiatives deemed uncompetitive in 2009-2010 but that had received funding during the previous three consecutive fiscal years, Telefilm will facilitate these initiatives in their transition away from Telefilm’s financial support.

Applicants seeking financial support should contact the Business Development Director in their respective region with a written proposal which describes the proposed initiative how it aligns with the regional Telefilm office’s SASP objectives and support criteria, and should include marketing-communications plans for promoting participation and recognizing Telefilm’s support.

Prior to submitting applications, interested parties are encouraged to:

  1. Review the SASP Guidelines to inform themselves before contacting Telefilm
