TELEFILM CANADA FUNDS THE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL

Montréal, August 10, 2009 – Telefilm Canada announces funding of $276,000 for the 33rd annual World Film Festival (WFF) through its Festival Performance Program. In addition, the WFF has been granted $52,500 to help defray costs associated with subtitling films in competition at the festival. Telefilm provided financial support for this major international festival last year as well.  

“In funding the World Film Festival, Telefilm Canada is pursuing its objective to increase audiences for Canadian productions”, said Sheila de La Varende, Director, National and International Business Development. “The WFF’s diverse programming showcases numerous homegrown films”.

Developing and promoting the Canadian audiovisual industry
Telefilm Canada is a federal cultural agency dedicated to developing and promoting the Canadian audiovisual industry. Telefilm provides financial support to the private sector to create distinctively Canadian productions that appeal to domestic and international audiences. The Corporation also administers the funding programs of the Canadian Feature Film Fund, the Canadian Television Fund and the Canada New Media Fund.
