Official statement by Carolle Brabant, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada, congratulating Canadian talent at the Oscars
Montreal, February 29, 2016 – “On behalf of Telefilm Canada, I would like to congratulate Pakistani-Canadian director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who won her second Oscar last night, the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short for A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness.
“Let’s also applaud Brie Larson, who won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in the Canadian-Irish coproduction Room, which earned Oscar nominations in four categories. Congratulations also to the team behind Spotlight, winner of the Oscar for Best Picture. The movie was shot in Toronto and the cast included Canadian actress Rachel McAdams.
