Official statement by Telefilm Canada on the passing of the Hon. Laurier L. LaPierre, O.C.

It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of the Honourable Laurier L. LaPierre, O.C., and an eminent and highly respected figure with whom we had the pleasure of working at Telefilm Canada for many years.

Mr. LaPierre was a member of the Board of Directors of Telefilm Canada from February 1997 to July 1998. He then became Chair of the Board of Telefilm, a post which he held until June 2001.

As a person who loved and defended the culture of Canada and its history, he leaves an important legacy for our country through his many achievements as an author, journalist, political commentator, educator and Senator.

Telefilm Canada extends its sincerest sympathy to his family and loved ones.
