Official statement from Christa Dickenson, Executive Director, Telefilm Canada, on the subject of the USMCA
October 1st, 2018 – “Telefilm Canada is very pleased that the newly-negotiated US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) will retain the cultural exemption clause, ensuring that our cultural products reflect our national identity in all of its diversity – including our two official languages and Indigenous communities.
A leader in coproduction, Canada has signed treaty agreements with 56 countries around the world, including Mexico, and will continue to be an international partner of choice.
The cultural exemption clause, a global standard in trade agreements for many decades now, ensures that our talented creators from all corners of the country continue to bring their excellent stories to the screen.”
